Rimac Concept-one: OVERVIEW

The two-seat, high-performance electric Supercar known as the Rimac Concept One (also known as Concept One) was created and produced by Rimac Automobili. The Rimac Concept S only overtook Concept One in 2015 with its 1,088 horsepower total output, acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour (0 to 60 mph) in 2.8 seconds, and price of US$980,000. Concept One has been dubbed the first electric supercar in the world. Eight automobiles were sold between January 2013 and October 2014.

History

Out of Mate Rimac's garage pastime, an automotive manufacturing firm called Rimac Automobili was born in Zagreb, Croatia, in 2009. The company's main goal, in Rimac's words, was to "start with a blank sheet of paper," to create an electric supercar. Since there were no market-ready electric systems for high-performance electric automobiles, the business created the required components and filed for 24 patents.

Rimac converted his 1984 BMW E30 into the company's first test mule by installing a 600-hp electric powertrain when the car's internal combustion engine exploded during one of its races. In April 2011, a vehicle known as the "Green Monster" broke five official acceleration records for the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA).

The media and possible investors became interested in this. He also produced several other E30 electric models for sale, and after seeing some success, he continued to develop his vehicle.

Once serial production begins in 2013, Concept One will cost US$980,000. There will only be one set of 88 units available. A new body will be created for production in place of Concept One, which has been tested but still requires some tweaks.

The vehicle made its debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show and also made an appearance at the 2012 Paris Concours d'Elegance, where it was well-received.

In January 2013, the first vehicle was delivered to an unidentified Spanish client. There have been eight automobiles produced and sold as of October 2014.

The Torridon 1 MW prototype dethroned the Rimac Concept One as the world's most potent all-electric supercar in early 2015.

With the E-Runner Concept One, a 1 MW version that was heavily customized, Rimac took part in the Pikes Peak event in June 2015. The car came in second overall. Nobuhiro Tajima, a multiple Pikes Peak champion, was the driver.

The vehicle was always changing. The final version was then displayed at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016.

Specifications

Concept One will reach its electronically regulated top speed of 305 km/h with a total output of 811 kW (1,088 horsepower) and 1,600 Nm (1,200 lb-ft) of torque. It will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 60 mph) in 2.8 seconds (190 mph).

The so-called "All Wheel Torque Vectoring System" is in charge of controlling each wheel's individual liquid-cooled permanent magnet synchronous electric motor and distributing power to each wheel in line with the driver's setup and driving conditions. The vehicle can also switch from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive.

The 82 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery that powers the motors gives the vehicle a 500 km (310 mi) range on a single charge. Carbon fiber is used to make the car's body. Custom leatherwork and hand-made dashboard parts can be found within.

Some parameters in the final version that was displayed at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show were further optimized: 1600 Nm is the greatest torque. 2.6 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, 6.2 seconds from 0 to 200 km/h, and 14.2 seconds from 0 to 300 km/h. The fastest recorded quarter-mile time is 9.9 seconds. The current top speed is 355 km/h, which is electronically controlled. The car has brakes made of carbon ceramic.
