The 2022 Bentley Bentayga offers more comfort and convenience than premium SUVs from BMW, Lincoln, Cadillac, and Mercedes-Benz, but they don't deliver luxury to the same degree. The Bentayga has the power for extended high-speed cross-country touring thanks to its hybrid V-6, V-8, or W-12 engine options. Additionally, the cargo hold in the back of the vehicle has ample space for a brisk shopping trip.
The opulent interior is adorned with stunning wood and metal accents, silky, aromatic leather, and every contemporary infotainment function that customers would want in a cutting-edge automobile. With its six-figure price tag and class-above aims, the Bentayga competes with the equally regal Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
What has changed for 2022?
For 2022, a sporty-looking S model will be added to the lineup that borrows heavily from the top-tier Speed model's styling cues but is powered by the Bentayga's standard 542-hp V-8.
The S variant outperforms the base V-8 trim thanks to a performance-tuned suspension, 22-inch wheels, and a sports exhaust system. A new independent option through the Mulliner customization program is a pair of carbon fiber rims, which are available elsewhere in the lineup.
Pricing of 2022 Bentley Bentayga
V8 4dr SUV with AWD (4.0L 8cyl Turbo 8A) at a starting price of $193,400. S Starting at $226,600 is the 4.0L 8cyl Turbo 8A 4dr SUV. Priced at $259,400, the Speed 4dr SUV with AWD features a 6.0L 12cyl Turbo 8A engine.
Which one to Purchase?
The V-8 model is our favorite. Even though the Speed's potent W-12 engine gives this large SUV more zest, it comes with a significant price premium above the V-8. The eight-cylinder variant should be kept, but with certain amenities like the adaptive suspension, the rear-seat entertainment system, and the 20-speaker Naim sound added. Additionally, you will receive a selection of driver-assistance systems if you select the Touring Specification package.
Interior and Comfort
The Bentayga's interior is adorned with opulent leather, real wood trim, and flashy metal elements to maintain its upscale image. Almost everything about a Bentley can be customized by the buyer.
Customers have the choice of front and rear bucket seats that sit four people or a second-row bench with three seats across and a pop-up third row that seats seven people. Although the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the Bentayga's main competition, has a more opulent rear seat, it still provides plenty of room for adults to stretch out.
Engine and Performance
For the Bentayga, Bentley provides a selection of powertrains. On the bottom end, there is a hybrid system with an electric motor and a 3.0-liter V-6 turbocharger that produces 443 horsepower.
The 542-hp twin-turbo V-8 engine follows. Although we haven't driven the latter, we can tell you that it makes a hearty burble as it accelerates to 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds. A 626-hp W-12 in the Bentayga Speed ups the ante.
When the Speed had 600 horsepower in 2017, this incredibly smooth powerhouse completed our 60-mph test in 3.6 seconds. Compared to the V-8, the W-12's power delivery is creamier, and passing maneuvers felt more robust with the W-12's performance.
With a top speed of 190 mph, Bentley boasts that the Bentayga Speed is the world's fastest SUV (although the Lamborghini Urus might have something to say about that). Whatever the engine, all Bentayga's have an eight-speed automatic transmission and have all-wheel drive as standard.
Fuel Efficiency and actual MPG
The 14 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined ratings for the V-8-powered vehicle aren't bad for a big SUV, but the W-12s are. The estimated mileage is 12 mpg in the city, 17 mpg on the highway, and 14 mpg overall. Having said that, the 12-cylinder Bentayga surprised us with a 23-mpg result on our 75 mph highway fuel economy route.
