The 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-class is a moving exhibit of the brand's newest technology as well as a personal limo for the ultra-rich. Which one to Purchase?
The new S-class has several modernization and enhancements to support its six-figure price tag, despite having a starting price that is much more than the 2020 model. We consider a powerful engine to be the pinnacle of luxury, thus we would pay more to have the 496-hp V-8 and the more prestigious S580 trunk lid badge.
Interior and Comfort
The S-class prioritizes screens inside. Numerous them. Up to five options, including a massive center touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, are available for the sedan. It does, however, come with an updated version of Mercedes' MBUX software with better voice-command features and smartphone-like functionality, including facial recognition and fingerprint scanning. The Burmester 3D sound system in the S-class sedan likewise comes standard, although a Burmester 4D stereo is also offered.
Engine and Performance
The S500 and S580 sedans from Mercedes are available with either a 429-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six cylinder engine or a 496-hp twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8. A 48-volt hybrid system (dubbed EQ Boost) is added to both powertrains, and they are paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive. A plug-in hybrid vehicle with a range of around 60 miles on pure electricity will also be available.
The gas-powered vehicle was tested both here in the United States and in its home in Germany, showcasing its various steering and suspension settings. The E-Active Body Control offers a "curve" function that gently leans the car into curves, even though every model rides on air suspension. The big-bodied Merc is surprisingly simple to maneuver in confined quarters thanks to the S-optional class's all-wheel steering system.
