With its cheeky appearance, infamously precise handling, and plenty of customization options, the 2022 Mini Cooper is a legend in the automobile industry. The Cooper is the brand's best-selling model and is available in hardtop three- and five-door as well as ragtop convertible body types. Customers can select between a 134 horsepower three-cylinder and a 189 horsepower four-cylinder engine, with the latter being a better fit for the Mini's engaging chassis.
Although the base models are reasonably priced, the better-equipped S versions go into the realm of entry-luxury vehicles, placing them up against BMW and Mercedes-and Benz's Audi's small sedans and hatchbacks—a competitive field. However, those who value style as much as they value driving fun might consider Cooper.
What has Changed for 2022?
For the 2022 model year, Mini modified Cooper's front and back bumpers, changed the grille, added new wheel designs, and added some striking new colors, including a fun Multitone roof option. A new steering wheel, checker-patterned upholstery, and improved air vents are just a few of the interior's improvements.

In our testing, the Hardtop model's trunk could only fit three carry-on luggage due to its modest size. However, there is a capacity for 12 if the back seats are removed. With the rear seats folded down, the five-door Hardtop has more cargo space than the Convertible.
The Infotainment and Connectivity
A digital gauge cluster and an 8.8-inch infotainment display are standard on all Mini Cooper variants. The entire lineup has SiriusXM satellite radio as standard equipment, but customers who want Apple CarPlay, in-dash navigation, or wireless phone charging must pay extra for those services. There is no Android Auto at all.
Engine and Performance
The 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that comes standard in this compact, the light vehicle produces 134 horsepower. All models in this generation of Minis have front-wheel drive. No matter which engine you choose, these Minis have fast handling and feel quick, but we like the S version's turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, which has 189 horsepower.
In our zero-to-60-mph test, the S's bigger engine showed to be somewhat quicker than the 1.5-liter engine, clocking in at 6.2 seconds. We found the automatic transmission shifts smoothly, but the manual transmission is still our choice. Although the Mini Cooper can be exhilarating to drive because of its strong suspension, it can also be harsh on bumpy roads.
Pricing of the 2022 Mini Cooper
The new base Oxford trim of the Mini starts at $20,600, and from there, all models' Classic, Signature, and Iconic trim levels may be quickly added on.
The expensive Oxford is a great value, but we don't blame you if you decide to settle on a Cooper S with little extras for about $30,000.
Which one to Purchase?
To optimize the fun-to-drive element now that the manual transmission is back, we'd pick it and install it in the more potent 189-hp Cooper S Hardtop. Although the five-door Hardtop costs a little more, we recommend sticking with the three-door model because neither Mini is very roomy.
