2023 BMW X1: What we Know Currently

2023 BMW X1

OVERVIEW

We've long been fans of BMW's entry-level SUV, the X1, thanks to its responsive handling, enthusiastic personality, and useful design. The 2023 model has undergone a complete redesign that appears to be a significant improvement over the model from the previous year, with upgrades to its interior, powertrain, and chassis. Under the hood is a brand-new 241-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is mated to a seven-speed automated transmission and all-wheel drive as standard.

The X1 is still a two-row SUV, unlike its major competition, the Mercedes-Benz GLB-class, but BMW claims that its slightly larger outward proportions have translated to more interior capacity. Speaking of the interior, it has been redesigned with a more contemporary look and the newest technological advancements, such as the company's iDrive 8 infotainment system.

What has Changed for 2023?

For 2023, BMW has updated the X1 SUV. A more edgy dual-kidney grille conceals a more potent four-cylinder engine. The inside room for passengers and cargo is expected to be slightly larger than what the previous generation supplied thanks to its larger external dimensions.

2023 X1: Engine and Performance

The 2023 X1 has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, just like the outgoing model, however the new version has 241 horsepower, an increase of 13. This time around, all-wheel drive is standard, and the X1 also gets a brand-new seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

According to BMW, the X1's updated powertrain has enough oomph to propel it from 0 to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds. Additionally, BMW claims that the X1's suspension has been revised to enhance stability and handling.

Avoid confusing the optional M Sport package, which adds performance-improving features like an adaptive suspension system and shift paddles mounted on the steering wheel, with the M model, which could arrive later. A unique steering wheel, more aggressively bolstered seats, and several sporty-looking exterior changes are also included in the M Sport package. We'll update this article with test results after we have a chance to evaluate the new X1.

2023 X1: Interior and Comfort

Since the 2022 X1 was already large for its size, the 2023 model's mild lengthening, heightening, and widening translates to only marginally more passenger space. With a toggle-switch shift lever, a floating centre console, an all-digital dashboard, and designer features like textured speaker grilles, the interior styling is more contemporary this time.

Ambient interior lighting, a power liftgate, and dual-zone automatic climate control are standard on all versions. The Convenience package offers a panoramic sunroof, but heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are separate options.

2023 X1: Connectivity

BMW's smallest SUV now features the company's most recent iDrive 8 infotainment system. The X1's digital dashboard is a sharp-looking single panel that functions as both a gauge display and an infotainment screen, similar to the larger iX electric SUV and the premium 7-series sedan.

SiriusXM satellite radio is also available on all models, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. The Convenience package offers a wireless smartphone charging pad, and the Premium package includes a head-up display, a Harman/Kardon sound, and a 360-degree exterior camera system.

2023 X1: Pricing

For 2023, there is only one trim available that is xdrive28i which is priced at $39,590.

Which one to Purchase?

There is only one trim option this time around, and it has all-wheel drive as standard; the sDrive28i variant with front-wheel drive won't be carried over into the current generation. However, for the time being, the X1 only receives a M Sport equipment package that adds exclusive aesthetic cues and an adaptive M suspension.

A higher-performance M-badged variant may be in the works. Although the xDrive28i has a tonne of standard features, we'd advise adding the Convenience package, which comes with keyless entry, a panoramic sunroof, auto-dimming mirrors, and a wireless smartphone charging pad.
