OVERVIEW
Ford introduces the seventh chapter of its iconic Mustang sports car with updated but recognizable looks, updated chassis components, an entirely new interior, and two enhanced powertrains. While the new pony has a slew of enhancements to prepare it for the future, the future of its closest rivals, the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger, isn't as bright.
The 5.0-liter V-8 will still power the next-generation vehicle, but it will now produce 480 horsepower. A little better option is a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged engine with 315 horsepower. Depending on the engine used, both a six-speed manual and a 10-speed automatic will be offered.
The hardtop coupe and soft-top convertible body styles of the Mustang will still be available. A 13.2-inch display is an option in the redesigned cockpit of the Mustang and is a component of a sizable curved screen that covers the center stack area. The system also uses touchscreen "buttons" in place of conventional radio and HVAC control knobs. The new pony car's sales should start sometime in the summer of 2023.
What has Changed for 2024?
Sales of the seventh generation of the Mustang will start in the summer of 2023. The Mustang now has some much-needed improvements thanks to the new look. Among its other design and powerplant upgrades, a new lineup of options for individuals with a genuine need for speed has been included.
A Performance Pack equipment upgrade will be available as an option for both Mustang GT and EcoBoost versions. A front strut-tower brace, Torsen limited-slip differential, wider wheels and tires, more powerful Brembo brakes, and a MagneRide active-dampening suspension are all included in the Performance Pack.
Optional Recaro buckets and an active exhaust are also offered for those who value performance. Furthermore, Ford sells a Performance Electronic Parking Brake that resembles a standard lever-action handbrake and is designed to make drifting the Mustang easier. A brand-new Mustang Dark Horse track-ready model has also been added to the lineup. It comes equipped with a leaner and meaner 500-hp Coyote V-8 engine with a direct route to the Ford Performance parts bin.
2024 Mustang: Engine and Performance
The revised 2.3-liter, four-cylinder EcoBoost engine that powers the 2017 Mustang as standard produces 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. That is 5 horsepower more than the previous Mustang, but it is still less than the 330 horsepower of the previous-generation EcoBoost Performance. The Mustang GT, which continues to have a 5.0-liter V-8 engine, has a six-speed manual transmission as standard, whereas every EcoBoost Mustang receives a 10-speed automatic.
The new Coyote V-8 is rated for 480 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque, which is higher than the previous model's 450 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. According to Ford, a performance exhaust is an option that boosts power to 486 horsepower and 481 pound-feet.
The 500-hp 5.0-liter V-8 in the brand-new Mustang Dark Horse variant pairs with either a 10-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission to power this track-focused step up from the GT. According to Ford, this engine's heart is made up of connecting rods from the 760-hp Mustang Shelby GT500 as well as an updated intake system. We won't update this space until our test crew has secured their equipment to the new Pony, but we haven't yet done so.
2024 Mustang: Interior and Comfort
Every feature visible from the driver's seat of the 2024 Mustang has been carved out using what Ford refers to as a "fighter-jet-inspired" design. The standard 12.4-inch instrument cluster in the Mustang is a significant improvement over the one in the previous model while we wait to see if its performance can breach the sound barrier. With various colors, gauges, and even a "calm" screen that just shows the most important information, the configurable display may be tailored to meet the needs of the majority of red, white, and blue patriots.
Depending on your chosen drive mode, ambient illumination, and the driver's display will adjust. While the base Mustangs have cloth seats and optional micro-suede vinyl inserts, the Premium trim adds stitched details to the dashboard and door trim. Leather inlays are added to the Mustang GT. Ford has also added a Remote Rev feature that enables you to enjoy the sounds from outside the car while the engine revs up to full power with only a click from the key fob.
2024 Mustang: Pricing
Ford has not yet disclosed the Mustang's price for 2024. No information on trim levels beyond EcoBoost four-cylinder and GT V8 versions have been provided. Regular, Premium, and special edition models are available for the modern Mustang.
Which one to Purchase?
The EcoBoost four-cylinder turbocharger is still the standard engine option for the Mustang, and the GT model comes with a V-8. Approximately $30,000 for the former and $40,000 for the latter, according to our estimates. It would be difficult to not recommend the top-dog GT even if we won't know the characteristics of each trim until the 2024 Mustang comes closer to its summer, 2023 selling date. It just feels right to drive a Mustang with a V-8 engine since it offers more power and an enjoyable roar. The only powerplant with a six-speed manual transmission is this one as well.
